What this calculator does
Churn Rate: Customer churn = customers lost ÷ customers at start × 100. Methodology stated, your own inputs only. Worked example, questions and limitations included.
Use it to turn Currency (symbol only, never converted), Customers at start of period, Customers lost during the period, Recurring revenue at start (optional), and the other shown inputs into a checked result you can compare, copy, or rerun with different assumptions.
The page shows the formula, a numeric worked example, and the assumptions that affect this customer economics calculation.

- — choice value.
- Customers at start of period
- — number value.
- Customers lost during the period
- — number value.
- Recurring revenue at start (optional)

Formula
Methodology: customer (logo) churn and gross revenue churn are calculated and shown separately — they answer different questions.
Customers acquired during the period are excluded from both the numerator and denominator.
Use the same period length throughout.
Customer churn = customers lost ÷ customers at start × 100. Revenue churn = recurring revenue lost ÷ starting recurring revenue × 100.
Inputs used: Currency (symbol only, never converted), Customers at start of period, Customers lost during the period, Recurring revenue at start (optional), Recurring revenue lost to cancellations and downgrades (optional).
Worked example
A month
- 24 ÷ 800 = 3%.
- Revenue churn = 1,000 ÷ 40,000 = 2.5%.
Reading the result
The headline figure is the main answer. Any breakdown underneath shows the parts that make it up, so you can check the working and see what changes when you adjust an input.
Limitations and assumptions
- Simple start-of-period denominator.
- Gross churn; expansion not netted.
- Results are educational estimates built only from the figures you enter. They are not personalised investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. Rates, growth and discount assumptions are always yours to choose.
- The result depends on the values you enter for this churn rate calculator; it does not supply missing rates, rules, prices, dates, or assumptions for you.

Common questions
Logo or revenue churn?
Logo churn counts customers; revenue churn weights by what they paid. Large customers leaving hurt revenue churn more.
Monthly to annual?
Annual retention ≈ (1 − monthly churn)¹²; don't just multiply by 12. Check the formula, example, and limitations on this page before using the result for a real customer economics decision.
What is a good value?
We don't assume an industry-standard figure. Compare against your own history and plan, not a rule of thumb.
How do I use the Churn Rate Calculator?
Enter the required values for Currency (symbol only, never converted), Customers at start of period, Customers lost during the period, Recurring revenue at start (optional), Recurring revenue lost to cancellations and downgrades (optional). The calculator applies the formula on this page and shows the main result with any supporting breakdown so you can check the arithmetic.
What formula does the Churn Rate Calculator use?
Customer churn = customers lost ÷ customers at start × 100. Revenue churn = recurring revenue lost ÷ starting recurring revenue × 100. The visible formula section above lists the calculation path and the edge cases the page handles, so the result can be checked without relying on the form alone.
Can the Churn Rate Calculator be used for exact decisions?
Use it as a calculation aid, not as a substitute for checking the underlying rule, contract, policy, or professional advice that applies to your situation. When a result depends on local rules, personal details, prices, or dates, enter those values yourself and confirm them before acting.
